Materials
AISI 440C martensitic stainless steel is used for inner rings, outer rings and balls. AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel is used for retainers and metal shields. Standard material of rubber seals is nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), and other materials such as fluorinated rubber, acrylic rubber, etc. are available upon request.

Retainer: Crown type cage, plastic, phenolic, Nylon, Polypropylene for USP Grade 6, available;
Balls: Si3N4 balls, ceramic balls for high precision grade ABEC-7 bearings available.)

440C stainless steel is magnetized steel.

Precision Specification
Dimension tolerance and rotational precision grade over ISO Normal Class or ABMA(used to be AFBMA)ABEC-1 is guaranteed. ISO CLASS 6 or ABEC-3 and ISO CLASS 5 or ABEC-5 are also available upon request.

Lubrication
Heat-resistant grease is prepacked in TBP's shielded and sealed type stainless steel ball bearings. Special high temperature greases such as silicon grease, fluorinated grease, etc. are available for special applications upon request.

Enclosure Types
STANDARD SEAL
SMT Bearings with suffix of 2RS are equipped with this type of seal. The seal is Nitrile Butadiene Rubber(NBR) molded round a flat metal ring which imparts flexibility and strength to the construction and helps to control sealing performance. The seal is compressed into a groove in the outer ring to ensure a tight joint without creating outer ring distortion.

STANDARD SHIELD
SMT Bearings with suffix of ZZ are equipped with this type of shield, which is a formed metal disc, and is crimped into a shield groove in the outer ring, keeping a close running clearance with the inner ring. Shields help to retain grease lubricant and prevent the entry of chips or large particles into the bearing.

TYPE (AISI 316 STAINLESS) Radial Ball Bearings WHY AISI 316 STAINLESS? TBP Bearings Inc. manufactures radial ball bearings utilizing type 316 stainless which provides superior corrosion resistance when compared to conventional 440 stainless bearings. AISI 316 is more resistant to atmospheric and general corrosive conditions than any of the other standard stainless steels. 316 stainless is widely used in the food and medical industries. Bearings produced from this type of steel can run in liquids or can run dry at slow speeds. Eight Good Reasons to use them BEARING CONSTRUCTION Machined semi-precision rings, polymer cages, and grade 100 type 316 stainless balls are used in the manufacture of TBP Stainless Ball Bearings. Rings are machined from solid rod stock to produce true running concentric bearings. This type of bearing is intended primarily to reduce friction and permit free movement of turning parts. They are best suited for moderate loads and slow speeds. MATERIALS RINGS: AISI 316 stainless, non-magnetic, unground semi-precision. BALLS: Standard balls are AISI 316. When necessary, other types of balls are available on a special order basis. BALL RETAINER (CAGE): Standard ball retainers are acetal. For increased chemical compatibility polypropylene can be provided. When higher heat capability is required, bearings can be manufactured with either a high temperature polymer cage or without a cage. SHIELDS/SEALS: Open design is standard. Polymer shields and seals can be provided on a special order basis. LUBRICATION: TBP supplies the bearings with a light proprietary oil that reduces friction and noise, and is non contaminating in most applications. When necessary, special order lubricants can be provided. TEMPERATURE: 180°F For higher temperature capability consult TBP. Eight Good Reasons to Use Them: 1. SUPERIOR CORROSION RESISTANCE: Most bearings failures today are caused by corrosion. A TBP 316 stainless bearings can be utilized in environments destructive to conventional units. 2. Therefore, if the speed and load are low there is no need for lubrication. 6. NON MAGNETIC STAINLESS AISI 316 stainless is non magnetic because it has no iron and a low carbon content. The basic composition of the metal is a 18-8 chromium-nickel with molybdenum additive. 7. HYGIENIC: Bearing from AISI 316 Stainless and are naturally clean because they do not corrode or require lubrication in certain applications. 8. HIGH HEAT CAPABILITY: 316 Stainless bearings fitted with high temperature polymer cage or without a cage in a full complement construction, can run at higher temperatures ranging from 180° F to 1000°F.
